Snow Patrol cancel US dates

Gary Lightbody calls time after losing his voice

Snow Patrol have been forced to cancel a series of dates in the US after lead singer Gary Lightbody failed to recover from laryngitis.

The band have pulled dates in Atlanta, Washington DC, Boston and an instore performance at Newbury Comics following the singer’s throat problems.

Speaking on the band’s official website, Lightbody said: “My voice is in pieces. When we began the ‘Eyes Open’ tour in Feb of this year I was told by my doctor a few days beforehand that I had laryngitis and it would be best if I took a week off to recover.

“I told him I didn’t have a week as we had shows pretty much every day. All the gigs so far have been a struggle for me. Unfortunately now I can barely hit any notes. My entire upper range has disappeared into a whisper.”

The shows are in the process of being rescheduled, and Lightbody hopes to perform the cancelled gigs either at the end of the tour or when they return to the States in August.

He is currently seeing a specialist to try and speed up his recovery.

Lightbody added: “I’m terribly sorry about all this. It is completely my fault for not taking better care of my voice. I of course appreciate all your kind words over the last few days but I also know that is must be frustrating for all you guys with tickets.

“We are at present trying to reschedule these postponed shows for as soon as possible. All details will be made available to you when we know.”

All tickets will be valid for the rescheduled dates.
