The stars return to Belfast as conquering heroes...

Snow Patrol played a triumphant home-town show in Belfast last night (March 25) – their first return since becoming bona fide chart stars.

The Irish five-piece were greeted like conquering heroes by the 800 strong crown in the Mandela Hall and were clearly moved by the reception they got.

“This is the single best show we have ever played, bar none,” said a delighted frontman Gary Lightbody. “I can’t tell you how much it means to us to be here.”

Such was demand for tickets for the gig that touts were asking over five times the face value.

The band worked through material from all three albums – including old favourites like ‘Starfighter Pilot’ and ‘Black & Blue’ – but concentrated on recent platinum selling release ‘Final Straw’.

During their break-through top 10 anthem ‘Run’, Snow Patrol had a Coldplay moment when the crowd lead the singing leaving Lightbody looking happily stunned.

Rick McMurray from fellow Northern Irish band Ash was in the crowd.
