DENNIS DANNEL, guitarist for Californian punk rockers Social Distortion, died on Tuesday (February 29) of a brain aneurysm. He was 38.
The guitarist began his career in Social Distortion in 1979 after he was invited to join by his childhood friend, SD frontman Mike Ness. He played on both the band’s first album 1983’s ‘Mommie’s Little Monster’ and their last, 1998’s ‘Live At The Roxy’.
Speaking on the band’s official website last week, Ness told fans: “I am saddened beyond any possible form of expression. Dennis and I have been friends since boyhood, starting Social Distortion while we were in high school. My deepest regrets to his family.”
Dennis Dannel, who had a sideline selling real estate as well as producing a clutch of other Southern Californian bands, is survived by his wife Christie and two children.
