Someone finally gave Carly Rae Jepsen a sword

We like her and we think she should have one

Carly Rae Jepsen wielded a sword live on stage at Lollapalooza, setting the internet alight as one of its most urgent petitions was finally realised.

The obsession with getting Carly Rae to own a sword stems from a Tumblr post titled ‘petition to give carly rae jepsen a sword‘, which explained: “i like her and think she should have one”.

Now, the wishes of @swordlesbianopinions and the tens of thousands who agreed with them have been fulfilled, with the singer being handed a large (inflatable) sword while playing live at Lollapalooza last Saturday (August 4). Watch the footage below.

“Ooh yeah! A sword!” she shouts with glee, raising the weapon aloft during her performance of her 2017 single ‘Cut to the Feeling.

The internet was of course delighted. “Watching Carly Rae Jepsen get her sword and saying, “oh, yeah, a sword!” is the happiest I’ve been in a long time. that’s where I’m at in life,” said one Twitter use.

Jepsen later responded to the bestowing of the sword herself via an Instagram post featuring fan art of her wielding the weapon. “Didn’t know I needed it. But I totally needed it.  Just like to knight my fav people- that’s all.” she said.

The Canadian artist is expected to return to record this year with the release of her as-yet-untitled fourth studio album, which will follow 2015’s ‘Emotion’.  ‘Cut To The Feeling’, which was originally intended for inclusion on ‘Emotion’, was her last release.

She has been previewing new material via Instagram, and also raised hopes of a new release with a teasing Spotify update.

It’s not the only news to come out of this year’s Lollapalooza, which takes place in Chicago. Vampire Weekend‘s Ezra Koenig revealed during their headline set that the band’s long-awaited fourth album is finally finished. They also played five new songs at an aftershow gig.
