Someone’s made a mash-up of Southampton FC’s Charlie Austin and Blur’s ‘Parklife’ – and it’s brilliant

"They said it was offside, that is a joke...PARKLIFE!"

Southampton FC striker Charlie Austin has shot to viral fame after his post-match interview was transformed into a parody of Blur‘s ‘Parklife’.

The Premier League star hit out at match officials on Saturday afternoon after his goal against Watford was ruled offside.

“We scored a perfectly good goal that was ruled out for offside. The officials cost us two points. They said it was offside, that is a joke,” Austin raged after the game.

But it wasn’t long before his rant caught the attention of one Blur fan, who noticed that it wasn’t too dissimilar to the rhythm of the verse from the classic 1994 single.

In the video, Austin is seen dishing out his post-match interview before it is interspersed with the Britpop track’s unforgettable refrain.

The clip was posted on Twitter by fan Ryan Butterworth and has been retweeted over 9000 times.

One fan responded: “That Charlie Austin parklife clip is probably the greatest thing I’ve ever seen on here and btw I’ve been here 8 years.”

It even attracted the attention of the man himself who simply replied: “Parklife”.

Meanwhile, there was a mini Blur reunion of sorts last month. As Gorillaz headlined LA’s Demon Dayz Festival, Graham Coxon joined Damon Albarn for a cover of Blur’s ‘Song 2’.

Albarns’ The Good, The Bad & The Queen are also set to release their long-awaited second album ‘Merrie Land’, ahead of a UK tour.
