Sonic Youth have enlisted Macauley Home Alone Culkin to supply the 'youth' element to their new promo video...

Sonic Youth, who release ‘Sunday’ as the first single from their current ‘A Thousand Leaves’ album on June 29, have enlisted youthful former child star Macauley Home Alone Culkin to star in the track’s promo video.

A spokesman for the Youth (pictured) told NME that former child star Culkin became involved through his friendship with the video’s director Harmony Korine, who wrote the screenplay for Kids and directed the recent controversial film Gummo.

The spokesman explained: “It’s a somewhat iconoclastic performance. Macualey spends most of the time snogging his fiance. They poke their tongues out a lot and kiss. It really is quite bizarre.”

B-sides for ‘Sunday’ include Sonic Youth’s cover of Kurt Cobain track ‘Moist Vagina’ which originally appeared as the flip for Nirvana hit ‘All Apologies’, plus previously unreleased track ‘Silver Panties’.

Sonic Youth have also announced another London date at the Shepherd’s Bush Empire on June 29. The band also play the London Meltdown Festival on July 1, as well making appearances at the Glastonbury and Phoenix Festivals.
