The Thurston Moore play surprise gig in Dalston

The band Thurston Moore has formed with Debbie Googe of My Bloody Valentine played their first gig in London earlier this wee. See above to watch footage from the gig now.

The Thurston Moore band played their first ever gig in a surprise set at Cafe Oto in Dalston, east London on Thursday night (August 14). Moore and Googe were joined on stage by Sonic Youth drummer Steve Shelley and Chrome Hoof guitarist James Sedwards.

A list of the band’s European tour dates is listed on Sonic Youth’s website with an appearance in Berlin scheduled for tonight (August 17).

Further gigs in Holland, Portugal, France and Switzerland will follow though there is no announcement regarding any recorded output from the band. Thurston Moore is expected to release new solo album ‘The Best Day’ later this year and will tour the US under his solo guise in September and October.

Sonic Youth have been inactive since the break-up of Moore and Kim Gordon’s marriage three years ago. Gordon and Moore announced their split in October 2011. Thurston Moore went on to form new band Chelsea Light Moving, who released their self-titled debut album in March 2013. Kim Gordon formed the band Body/Head.
