Documentary about Sonic Youth’s Lee Ranaldo to be released – watch trailer

'In Doubt, Shadow Him!' will be released in December

A documentary about Sonic Youth‘s Lee Ranaldo is set for release this winter.

The film will be directed by Arnaud Maguet and produced by French band Hifiklub, who Maguet provides visuals for.

Set in Ranaldo’s home city, New York, In Doubt! Shadow Him! follows the same “drift” style that Maguet has been renowned for in previous films such as Plans Make Gods Laugh, a film about QOTSA’s Alain Johannes.

The documentary will feature appearances from Lee Ranaldo And The Dust’s guitarist, Alan Licht and composer Phill Niblock, who has previously worked with Ranaldo.

The film is set to an original soundtrack by Ranaldo and Hifiklub and was recorded at the Sonic Youth studio in New York.

In Doubt, Shadow Him! is due for release this December, watch the trailer below.

Since the split of his former band Sonic Youth in 2011, Ranaldo has been working on his own band, Lee Ranaldo And The Dust, who are set to tour with support from former Sonic Youth bandmate, Thurston Moore.

Ranaldo has also collaborated with bands such as The Cribs with his spoken-word piece in third album track, ‘Be Safe’.

Sonic Youth bassist Kim Gordon recently released her autobiography Girl In a Band.

Moore recently interviewed Pussy Riot for NME, labelling the punk protesters as “one of the most important groups of our time”.

Lee Ranaldo And The Dust are set to play London’s Garage venue on November 21.
