GEMMA HAYES GETS SOME EXTRA SPARKLE

After producing Cardigans singer Nina Persson's debut album, Mark Linkous offers to work on the Irish songstress' debut album...

SPARKLEHORSE founder MARK LINKOUS has collaborated with Irish songwriter GEMMA HAYES.

While recording her second EP, the Irish singer-songwriter informed NME.COM that her debut album will include a collaboration with Linkous.

The two struck up a friendship whilst touring together earlier this year, during which he invited Hayes to support the band on their forthcoming tour of Europe.

“I’d love to do it, but I’m not sure if I’ll be able to yet,” Hayes told NME.COM. She added that she had given Linkous a “really rough” copy of her album and “he liked it so much he offered to do something for it”.

“It could be backing vocals, guitars or instrumentation,” she speculated. “I’m not sure what yet. I said I’d send him a few CDs so he can add whatever he likes to it. His own songs are so incredible, I’m just really flattered he wants to be involved.”

Though the album doesn’t have a working title, Hayes insists it will be recorded throughout September at (Flaming Lips / Mercury Rev producer) Dave Friddman’s Buffalo-based Tarbox Studio.

“The amazing thing about Buffalo is that it’s such a quiet and empty place you have no distractions,” suggested Hayes. “I plan to just immerse myself in the music and let Dave work his usual magic. There’s a lot of potential tracks, but nothing’s set in stone yet… we’re just gonna see what sticks best.”
