LADIES AND GENTLEMEN: A BAND

Jason Pierce back in action

Spiritualized‘s Jason Pierce has recruited a new band following the sacking of three members earlier this year.

The new Spiritualized line-up includes percussionist Tom Edwards from the Royal Academy of Music, bassist Martin Shallards from Nottingham, drummer Kev Bales of Echoboy and guitarist Dogan from Julian Cope‘s band.

Bales is still officially in Echoboy and fellow Echoboy bassist Terry Dobbin has also been recording with Jason Pierce.

The band have now recorded 14 tracks for the follow-up to 1997’s ‘Ladies And Gentlemen We Are Floating In Space’ and plan to travel to Memphis or Nashville to work with a choir on the new material.

The new album’s planned for release either in September 2000 or early 2001.

Keyboard player Tim Lewis aka Thighpaulsandra has revealed the new material is: “a lot more Kraut Rock that it used to be.” He said: “If you can imagine a bit of country, a bit of Elvis, a bit of Kraut Rock and a few other things, all mixed together.

“There’s a lot of orchestral things, like a 30 piece strings section, brass and choirs and God knows what else.”

The new album is being produced by Jason Pierce himself and recorded at Sir George Martin‘s Air Studios in London.
