Spotify’s most streamed artists, albums and songs of 2016 revealed

Streaming service unveils list of the most listened-to music of the year

Spotify has unveiled lists of the most streamed artists, songs and albums on the platform this year.

For the second year in a row, Drake has been crowned Spotify’s most streamed artist, attracting 4.7 billion streams in 2016 despite his album ‘Views’ being an exclusive to rival Apple Music for the first two weeks of its release back in April.

Earlier this year it was announced that Drake is the most streamed artist ever and his hit ‘One Dance’ is the most streamed song to grace the service.

“Drake has been unstoppable this year – he’s a true global superstar,” said Stefan Blom, Spotify’s Chief Content & Chief Strategy Officer. “With the top album and the top song this year, as well as his successful Summer Sixteen tour, Drake continues to engage his fans in a way that only Drake can; it’s no surprise he is dominating the music industry.”

The likes of Justin Bieber, Rihanna, Twenty One Pilots and Kanye West trail Drake in the list of the top five most streamed artists of the year, while Rihanna has also been confirmed as the most streamed female artist.

The most streamed newcomer was Zayn Malik, while Drake’s ‘Views’ and ‘One Dance’ were the most streamed album and song respectively.
