St. Etienne, who were special guests in the NME Signing Tent today, are to play a one-off gig in Dubai – as special guests at the World Speedboat ChamPionships this November.
The Creation band were invited by organisers to play a party, said keyboardist Pete Wiggs. “They said it was a glamorous, James Bond event!”
Singer Sarah Cracknell said: “I’m a bit worried me, and the backing singers are going to be kidnapped and sold into white slavery!”
It’s the first time the band have played in the Middle East – the gig will come at the start of their biggest tour yet, which will also visit Singapore, Hong Kong, Australia and New Zealand. They will also play in Japan and the USA.
