Annie Clark confirms she has made music with Sleater-Kinney musician
The video for St Vincent song ‘Birth In Reverse’ has been revealed while Annie Clark has revealed that she has written songs with Sleater-Kinney’s Carrie Brownstein.
The video for ‘Birth In Reverse’ sees Clark perform the song in a number of abstract locations, including space, and can be seen above. The video was directed by Wilo Perron, who helped create the artwork for this year’s ‘St Vincent’ album.
Meanwhile, the revelation regarding Brownstein was made in a new interview with comedian Marc Maron as part of his long running WTF podcast series. Clark is the guest on this week’s podcast (December 16) and confirms that she has written music with Brownstein (right), who recently reunited with Sleater-Kinney for a new album which will be released in January.
Asked by Maron if she will release an album with Brownstein, Clark seemed doubtful, stating: “I mean… she’s preeeetty busy,” but adding that they may release a 7-inch record one day.
Later this month Clark will join Neneh Cherry and Alison Goldfrapp in curating a portion of BBC 6 Music’s Christmas programming. Clark promises to play music from J Dilla, Nine Inch Nails, John Coltrane, Cate Le Bon and Peggy Lee among others during her December 24 broadcast.
Delving into the BBC archives, Clark will also dedicate part of her day to documentaries of Nirvana’s ‘Nevermind’ and ‘The Hounds Of Love’ by Kate Bush. Live music will be provided from past sessions by Fela Kuti at Glastonbury as well as Stereolab, Nick Cave, and PJ Harvey.
St Vincent‘s self-titled album was named NME’s Album Of The Year 2014. See below to hear NME writers explain why it received this year’s title.
