St Vincent names Marc Ribot and Gang of Four’s Andy Gill as her favourite guitarists

Annie Clark's latest LP is NME's Album Of The Year

St Vincent has named Marc Ribot and Gang Of Four‘s Andy Gill as her favourite guitarists.

Speaking to Guitar Player, Annie Clark described the two players as “people who can make a guitar sound like it is being strangled or really make it sing, sometimes both in the same breath.” Ribot is a regular collaborator with Tom Waits and has also played with The Black Keys, Elvis Costello and Elton John, as well as releasing a number of solo albums.

Gang of Four release their new LP ‘What Happens Next’ on February 24, 2015. It will feature guest vocals from Alison Mosshart from The Kills. Click here for more information on the record.

Clark will join Neneh Cherry and Alison Goldfrapp, curating a portion of BBC 6 Music’s Christmas programming. Dubbed ‘The Three Wise Women’, Cherry, Goldfrapp and Annie Clark of St Vincent’s shows will be broadcast on Christmas Eve, Christmas Day and Boxing Day. Clark promises to play music from J Dilla, Nine Inch Nails, John Coltrane, Cate Le Bon and Peggy Lee among others during her December 24 broadcast.

Delving into the BBC archives, Clark will also dedicate part of her day to documentaries of Nirvana’s ‘Nevermind’ and ‘The Hounds Of Love’ by Kate Bush. Live music will be provided from past sessions by Fela Kuti at Glastonbury as well as Stereolab, Nick Cave, and PJ Harvey.

St Vincent‘s self-titled album was named NME’s Album Of The Year 2014.
