The band play new songs to an enraptured crowd at London Astoria...

STARSAILOR kicked off the NME AWARDS SHOWS at LONDON ASTORIA last night (February 4), with frontman JAMES WALSH hailing WILL YOUNG a genius!

Speaking from the stage, Walsh said: “Sorry Gareth Gates, forgot to put you on the list. But Will Young – welcome! You’re a fucking genius!”

The band played four new songs, one of which – ‘Four To The Floor’ – was dedicated to his girlfriend Lisa and their baby Niamh. The other new tracks were ‘Music Was Saved’, ‘Silence Is Easy’ and ‘Telling Them’, which will appear on their forthcoming second album, which is slated for release in May.

Colin Greenwood and Ed O’Brien from Radiohead were among the sold-out audience, who flocked to see 22-20’s, Hope Of The States and Ladytron.

The NME shows continue tomorrow (February 6) with Ikara Colt, [/a], [a] and The Raveonettes at the Astoria.
