Status Quo crowned kings of the UK singles chart

The rock veterans are the most successful group ever

Status Quo have been crowned kings of the UK Singles Chart after it was revealed they have had more hit singles than any other group in UK chart history.

New research by The Book of British Hit Singles & Albums team has revealed the rockers have had 61 singles chart entries since their first hit, ‘Pictures of Matchstick Men’ , hit the Top Ten back in 1968.

The band have now had hits scanning five decades, but only one Number One, ’Down Down’ in 1974.


Next up are Queen on 52, with The Rolling Stones and UB40 joint third on 51.

Quo mainmen Francis Rossi and Rick Parfitt stated, “We are delighted and honoured to receive this impressive accolade. Forty years have flown by and we intend to keep rocking all over the world for many years to come.”

The band release their 33rd album, ‘The Party Ain’t Over Yet’ , through Sanctuary Records on September 19.
