Tributes are flooding in for Stereolab guitarist MARY HANSEN, who died in a road accident earlier this week (December 9).
The band’s official website, www.stereolab.co.uk, has received messages from throughout the world mourning the passing of one of the band’s core members.
Oskar Einarsson from Iceland said: “I saw the October 30 show in Reykjavik and it makes me very sad, and thrilled, to have seen one of Mary’s last gigs. I will never forget that show, and Mary’s death is one of the most tragic events in rock for many years.”
Basil from Brazil added: “You could not imagine the loss I feel”, while Jen Brace from Ontario stated: “The loss of such a beautiful person is a tragic thing.”
Mary’s funeral will be held in Maryborough, Queensland in her native Australia next week (December 20).
Along with Tim Gane and Laetitia Sadier, [a][/a] are regarded as one of the most experimental and influential bands of the last ten years.
Their mid-90s albums ‘Mars Audiac Quintet’ and the eclectic ‘Emperor Tomato Ketchup’ saw them move towards the mainstream in terms of commercial success the UK.
Their most recent release was a compilation of their BBC Radio sessions, released last October.
