Speaking about the 80,000 capacity event, singer Kelly Jones said: “You look at the legends who’ve headlined Slane and I think festival-wise, it’s one of the biggest deals around and we’re absolutely thrilled to be doing it.”

Tickets priced go on sale at 9am on June 15.

The band are also rumoured to be appearing at this year’s Glastonbury, and are planning a live album for release, possibly later this year.

Last year, U2 played an unprecedented two days at the 80,000 capacity Slane – over consecutive weekends – after intervention from the Irish government allowed strict licensing laws to be worked around.
