VASELINE SLIDES BACK IN

Ex-Vaseline Frances McKee's new band sign to Chemikal Underground...

FRANCES MCKEE, formerly one of Kurt Cobain‘s favourite bands The Vaselines, has signed to Chemikal Underground with her new band Suckle.

A five-piece also featuring Frances‘ sister Marie and ex-Long Fin Killie drummer Kenny McEwan, the band join label owners The Delgados, Mogwai, Magoo and Cha Cha Cohen on the roster.

Suckle have previously released one single, ‘Cybilla’, on their own LeftHand Recordings label. McKee has also previously recorded as Painkillers but there has been a long hiatus since the Vaselines split – and subsequent Nirvana cover versions of ‘Molly’s Lips’ and ‘Son of a Gun’ – as McKee has been working as a teacher for some years.

The band are currently recording new material.

Meanwhile, another band of Cobain favourites – Aberdeen, Washington’s veteran proto-grungers The Melvins – have covered Nirvana‘s ‘Smells Like Teen Spirit’ on their forthcoming album ‘The Crybaby’.
