Singer encountered financial trouble after investing all of her money in her music career
Former Sugababes singer Jade Ewen has allegedly been made bankrupt, owing thousands to the taxman.
The bankruptcy order was posted last month at the County Court in Central London. It has been claimed that the singer – who represented the UK in Eurovision 2009 – encountered financial trouble after investing all of her money in her music career.
Sugababes went on hiatus in 2012 and failed to regroup. A source told The Sun, “Jade put her all into her music but sadly things simply haven’t gone well.”
Ewen joined the band shortly after her Eurovision appearance, replacing axed member Keisha Buchanan. “She joined the Sugababes full of optimism and had high hopes given the band were very much established in the charts. But it seems she fell victim to their shelf life expiring,” the source added.
Sugababes announced to fans that they were taking a break to pursue solo projects in 2012. Although the split was never officially confirmed by the band, Ewen and the other two members, Heidi Range and Amelle Berrabah, have all since admitted the demise of the band.
In 2013, Ewen told Digital Spy, “The band being over is definitely not my choice. I kind of was unlucky in that I came in [to Sugababes] towards the end of the cycle when things naturally came to the end.”
Jade Ewen isn’t the first Sugababe to be declared bankrupt, as Mutya Buena came up against the same fate last year.
However, Ewen isn’t completely down and out. At the weekend she tweeted, “On my way to Romania to shoot my first ever action movie ‘End Of A Gun’ with Steven Seagal! Wish me luck.”
