Sum 41 frontman Deryck Whibley hospitalised with ‘severe pneumonia’

Band forced to cancel gigs while he recovers

Sum 41 singer Deryck Whibley has been hospitalised with “severe pneumonia” while on tour in Australia.

The frontman, 30, is being treated in a Sydney hospital, according to a statement on the band’s website As a result of his illness, Sum 41 say they have postponed several forthcoming gigs.

The statement reads:

“We regret to inform everyone that we have had to cancel a few shows due to Deryck Whibley being hospitalised with severe pneumonia. Deryck is currently being treated in a Sydney hospital. Doctors are doing their best to beat the pneumonia and Deryck will remain in Sydney until he has recovered.

“As soon as Deryck is out of the hospital the band will return back to the stage performing their ‘Screaming Bloody Murder’ world tour with the usual high energy kick ass shows.”

The band did not clarify when they would be back on the road, or give details about what fans with tickets to cancelled shows should do. See for more information.
