NME.COM can reveal that Simon Jones and Gruff Rhys collaborate with the dance act...

THE VERVE’S former bassist SIMON JONES and SUPER FURRY ANIMALS frontman GRUFF RHYS have been drafted in by THE KAHUNA BROTHERS to guest on their debut album, NME.COM can reveal.

Jones, who was sacked from John Squire’s prototype new band SKUNK WORKS earlier this year, a project which the former STONE ROSES has now completely shelved, will appear on several KAHUNA tracks.

It’s also been revealed that Jones has already worked with the duo and it was his bass playing that featured on the Kahuna’s limited edition single ‘Mindset To Cycle’ – released in June.

Dan Kahuna told NME.COM: “We’ve finished several tracks but they haven’t really got names. Three songs have had titles swapped between them, though we?re quite keen on ‘Drone’ and ‘Hailing’ at the moment!”

Described by Dan Kahuna as “organic electronica” and “machine psychedelia”, he said they had yet to arrange when their collaboration with Gruff Rhys would take place.

Although currently releasing records on their own Kahuna Cuts label, Dan revealed at least four major labels ere currently bidding to sign his act. Although no release date has been specified, NME.COM understands the album will appear before the end of summer 2001.
