Super Furry Animals make the ultimate sacrifice for John Peel

They're missing a very important match tonight

Super Furry Animals have broken their golden rule in order to play the special John Peel tribute show in London tonight (October 12).

The band have just finished soundchecking at the Queen Elizabeth Hall, where they will join New Order, ]The Fall and others, ahead of tomorrow’s John Peel Day.

But it will mean them missing the Wales-Azerbaijan football match.

Singer Gruff Rhys told NME.COM: “We usually do our itineraries around Welsh football matches, and it’s clashing with Wales-Azerbaijan, which gives you magnitude of how much we want to play it, we gave up a football match. So we’re looking for a nearby pub with Sky Sports 2!”

He also explained how they have chosen tonight’s setlist: “We’re doing a song called ‘Zoom!’ which we initially wrote on the way to his house, when we were doing a session there.

”And we’re doing ‘Run, Christian, Run!’ because he always liked it when we played the pedal steel, so we’re getting the pedal steel out for that. We’ve chosen songs that make us think of John Peel.”

Highlights of tonight’s show can be heard throughout the day on Radio 1 tomorrow.
