St Vincent’s Annie Clark to appear on new Swans album

'To Be Kind' will be released on May 12

St Vincent‘s Annie Clark will appear on the new album by Swans, it has been confirmed.

The band will release ‘To Be Kind’ on May 12 and have revealed a host of guest stars who have contributed to the record. Joining Clark, who provides backing vocals on the album, there will also be appearances from Cold Sparks, Little Annie and Bill Rieflin.

‘To Be Kind’ is produced by Swans’ Michael Gira and has a run time of over two hours. The album will be released as a triple vinyl album, a double CD, and a 2XCD Deluxe Edition that will include a live DVD. It will also be available digitally.

Swans latest album was funded by fans following a campaign by Gira in 2013 which saw the frontman offer to write a personalised song for anybody willing to contribute money toward the recording. The majority of the money arrived primarily through the sale of live album ‘Not Here/Not Now’.

In addition to the live album, fans were given the opportunity to invest more heavily and get different things in return. A post on the group’s record label website confirmed that for £312 ($500) Gira would write an acoustic song with the “customers'” name in the song, praising that person individually, “his or her ancestors, thoughts, dreams, and future or past lives, forever”. Additionally, for £62 ($100) investors received an executive producer credit on the album while £124 ($200) bought VIP access and a meet and greet with the band at an upcoming live show.

Swans have raised money this way before, resulting in the release of live albums ‘I’m Not Insane’ and ‘We Rose From Your Bed With The Sun In Our Head’.
