Band are in south America for Rock in Rio Festival
System Of A Down performed to just 80 people in a hotel bar in Rio De Janeiro, Brazil earlier this week.
Footage of the band playing to a tiny audience was shared on Instagram three days ago (September 24) by a fan. System of a Down are in Brazil to play the Rock in Rio festival. Earlier today footage of them performing ‘Toxicity’ with Chino Moreno of Deftones from the festival emerged.
Having played the festival, it appears that 3/4 of the band returned to their hotel and performed to a much smaller crowd. Drummer John Dolmayan, bass player Shavo Odadjian and guitarist Daron Malakian got on stage in the hotel with only frontman Serj Tankian absent.
The fan shot footage, which can be seen below, was tagged: “What happens in #Rio rocks Rio! @systemofadown @shavoodadjian @realjohndolmayan and Daron getting up in a bar at hotel to give 80 lucky random people something to remember forever. From 80 people last night to 80,000 people tonight at #rockinrio #systemofadown #classic #neverforget #rare @velvethammermgmt #manager #soad #deftonesband Tonight! “
The group are currently on a ‘Wake Up the Souls’ tour to mark 100 years since the Armenian Genocide during World War I. The tour ends on October 6 in Mexico City, and included a free show in Armenia – also the band’s first ever gig there – on the day before the annual genocide remembrance day.
System of a Down are currently in the process of making their sixth album. Bassist Shavo Odadjian confirmed earlier this year that the band are working on a new album. He said: “We’ve written some songs. We’re keeping it to ourselves. We’re getting back to the bullshit of being together.”
