SYSTEM OF A DOWN have raised $20,000 in aid of the ARMENIAN NATIONAL COMMITTEE OF AMERICA (ANCA), an organisation who advance the concerns of the Armenian community in the US.

The band, who are all of Armenian decent and lost family members in the Armenian Holocaust, headlined a benefit concert last Saturday evening (November 4) at the Hollywood Palace in LA.

The night, named ‘Souls – A Benefit for Recognition of the Armenian Genocide to Stop Crimes Against Humanity’ was attended by 1,300 people, each paying $20 per head for a ticket. Larger donations were also given from various US record labels and websites.

The band’s set was preceded by a short documentary documenting the 1.5 million Armenians who were either murdered or deported from their homeland by the Ottoman Empire between 1915 and 1923.

The set that followed featured ten new songs which may appear on the group’s as-yet-untitled new album, which is due in the Spring.
