The two bands will head out on a Stateside trek in August…

System Of A Down and Mars Volta are teaming up for a North American tour later this year.

Dates and venues have yet to be announced for the two-month long trek, but it is expected that the jaunt will kick off in early August and feature support from an as-yet-unconfirmed third band.

”With Mars Volta on the bill, I think we’re giving our fans a terrific show,” System Of A Down singer Serj Tankian said.

The dates will be System Of A Down’s first extended North American tour since 2002. As reported by Billboard.com, the band are currently in the middle of a short club trek which hits Dallas tomorrow night (April 29) before heading out to Lisbon for a month-long European tour.

As previously reported by NME.COM, System Of A Down will release their new album ‘Mezmerize / Hypnotize’ in two instalments over six months, with the first half, ‘Mezmerize’, out on May 16 through American Recordings / Columbia.

Mars Volta will be touring their current album ’Frances The Mute’.
