T In The Park to host new event in Glasgow next summer instead?

Could T be heading to the city?

Amid rumours that T In The Park may not be taking place next year, it has been revealed that organisers may be looking to put on a different event in Glasgow.

Last years event was hit by numerous problems and tragedies – including one festival-goer being found dead, two teenagers dying of drug-related incidents, a cash machine being stolen and more.

Festival Republic previously claimed that T In The Park 2017 would be going ahead as planned –  despite their website not yet listing details for next year. Now, The Daily Record reports that organisers DF Concerts are seeking to take a year off from hosting T at the problematic Strathallan Castle to host an alternative three-day non-camping event at Glasgow Green in July.

Perth and Kinross Provost Liz Grant said: “We cannot afford to lose it to Perthshire, it is a wonderful event. It would be a big loss.”

A spokesman for Glasgow City Council confirmed: “We are in discussions with DF Concerts about hosting a non-camping festival in the city next July.

“We will not be, and are not interested in, hosting T in the Park.”

When asked if T could be returning to Strathallan, a ‘source’ close to DF said: “This is under consideration but no final decisions have been reached. Everything is up for discussion and it is still entirely possible that T could go ahead at Strathallan next year. It remains the preferred option, though a number of alternatives are being examined.

“It is possible that T could take a break and a festival takes place on Glasgow Green.”

T In The Park has been one of the major festivals on the circuit since 1994, and has been hosted in Strathclyde Park, Balado airfield and Strathallan Castle over the years. Last year’s headliners included The Stone Roses, Red Hot Chili Peppers and Calvin Harris – while LCD Soundsystem pulled an unjustifiably meagre crowd.
