Tame Impala share mixtape online – listen

Mac DeMarco, Caribou and Beck are among those featured on the mix

Tame Impala frontman Kevin Parker has shared a mix online as part of Modular’s regular podcast series, Modcast.

The mix, which features tracks by the likes of Caribou, Beck and Panda Bear as well as older acts such as Can and Serge Gainsbourg and newer favourite Mac DeMarco, is entitled ‘Kevin Parker’s Island Getaway’ and is available to stream on the site here.

Other recent contributors to the series have included Bloc Party, Iceage man Elias Bender Rønnenfelt’s new project VÅR and Yeah Yeah Yeahs guitarist Nick Zinner.

Earlier in the month, meanwhile, it was announced that Tame Impala bassist Nick Allbrook would be quitting the band. Originally citing on the band’s website that he needed to “try and screw his head back on, and make an attempt to assimilate back into society”, the bassist – who also fronts fellow psych band Pond – then went on to explain the decision in more depth to NME. “All bands and projects and stuff will keep going, it’s just hard to keep them all going if you’re touring all the time,” he said. “The only bad part will be not seeing my mates every day. I love them more than anything.” Allbrook will be replaced by Pond bandmate Cam Avery.

Tame Impala themselves, however, could also be headed in a new direction, as Uncut recently reported. Following last year’s ‘Lonerism’, which earnt the band the title of NME’s Album of 2013, Parker has said that the idea of doing another traditional album “doesn’t excite him” and that “there’s something narrow-minded about thinking an album is the only way you can put out music, especially in the world we’re in at the moment. Anything is possible.”

Tame Impala will return to the UK next month to play a headline show at London’s Hammersmith Apollo (June 25) and a set at Glastonbury festival.
