Taylor Swift stage invader ‘placed under psychiatric watch’

The man made it into Swift's stage during a gig in San Diego last August

A man who invaded the stage during a Taylor Swift gig last summer has reportedly been placed under psychiatric watch.

The singer was performing in San Diego, California on August 29, 2015 when Christian Ewing, then 26, is understood to have snuck into the concert and made it onto the stage before being tackled by security guards.

A physical altercation ensued, and it was reported at the time that a security guard broke his ribs in the clash. Ewing was later charged with misdemeanour battery and obstruction, with bail set at $35,000 (£22,000).

TMZ now reports that a judge has declared Ewing incompetent to stand trial. He has reportedly been ordered to spend up to three years under psychiatric watch at a mental health facility in San Diego. If and when Ewing is deemed competent again by a judge, he could still face charges over the incident.

Meanwhile, Black Eyed Peas singer Fergie has appeared to suggest that Taylor Swift’s high-profile beef with Kanye West and Kim Kardashian West could be some kind of publicity stunt. “Knowing them, it’s probably a big masterplan. They’ll probably all come together at the MTV Awards or something,” Fergie suggested during a recent Australian radio interview.
