Taylor Swift to play first UK festival show in Norwich

The singer will appear at Radio 1's Big Weekend in May

Taylor Swift has announced her first ever UK festival slot, with the singer set to headline this summer’s Radio 1 Big Weekend in Norwich.

Radio 1’s Big Weekend, which in previous years has played host to the likes of Lady Gaga, Rihanna and Jay Z, will take place this time around on May 23 and 24 at Earlham Park.

Confirming the news, Swift said: “Everyone talks about the festivals in England being the best ones you can go to. I feel like I’ve been missing out. I’m really excited”, adding that, from her experience, UK crowds were usually “rowdy, insane, in the best way – there seems to be a lot of jumping, which I love”.

Norwich City Council’s Brenda Arthur said of the news: “This is great news for Norwich and will give us the chance to show off this amazing city at its best.”

Taylor Swift is also set to play the British Summer Time festival in London’s Hyde Park on June 27.

Meanwhile, a video of a US police officer singing along to Taylor Swift’s smash hit ‘Shake It Off’ recently went viral after Swift praised the clip online.

Earlier this month, Taylor Swift made headlines after surprising a fan by sending her homemade art as well as a gift of $1,989 (£1,300) to pay off her student loan. Swift, who had already sent presents to numerous fans over Christmas, gave 25-year-old Rebekah Bortnicker the cash, as well as a necklace, a painted picture of herself and a hand-written note, in which she thanked the fan for “cheering me on in the most thoughtful and creative ways”.

She added: “Rebekah, now you’re $1,989 closer to paying off those student loans.”
