Taylor Swift named ‘most influential’ Twitter user of 2018 – even though she only tweeted 13 times

Liam Payne also beat President Donald Trump for the title of Number 1 male tweeter

Taylor Swift has been named Twitter’s ‘most influential’ user of 2018, despite having tweeted just 13 times across the year.

Brandwatch, a social media analysis company, released their annual list of Twitter’s top influencers earlier today (November 28). The ‘Look What You Made Me Do’ pop star came out on top on the women’s list, receiving an ‘influencer score’ of 98 out of 100.

Former rival Katy Perry landed at second place with 96 points – ahead of Kim Kardashian West, Demi Lovato, and Ellen Degeneres.

On the men’s list, Liam Payne was (somehow) named the most influential tweeter – beating President Donald Trump, Justin Bieber, and Barack Obama.

The final scores are said to be based on the genuine engagement created by the individual accounts – along with other Twitter metrics.

With the likes of Swift – who last tweeted in June – and Bieber rarely posting on the social media site, these global stars are “able to generate a huge amount of engagement”, according to Brandwatch data journalist Gemma Joyce.

Last month, Swift ended political silence to back Democrats in US midterm elections – though she chose Instagram over Twitter as a platform to urge her fans to vote.

In other news, Swift recently signed a huge new contract with Universal Music Group, which also secures money for other musicians.
