Beach Boys lawsuit will proceed to trial

Mike Love and Al Jardine go head to head

The lawsuit brought by Mike Love against former Beach Boys bandmate Al Jardine is to proceed to trial, following a ruling by a superior judge.

Variety reports that Love is seeking $3-$2m for court costs, and $1m of which he says Jardine should not have earned after using The Beach Boys’ name in other bands, despite being the only original member performing.

Love says he owns the right to use The Beach Boys name, and that Jardine has been wrongfully using the name in titles such as Al Jardine, Beach Boy and Beach Boys Family and Friends.

Brian Wilson formed The Beach Boys in 1961 with his brothers Carl and Dennis, their cousin Love and Brian’s friend Jardine.

Dennis Wilson passed away in 1983, as did his brother Carl in 1998.

Brian Wilson and Al Jardine recently put their differences aside and took to the stage together on the ’Pet Sounds’ 40th anniversary tour.

There is no date set for the trial.
