Jay-Z and The Beatles in US Billboard chart battle

The two acts dominate America's album chart

Jay-Z and The Beatles are locked in a chart battle this week in the US.

The rapper sold 476,000 copies of ‘The Blueprint 3’ last week and is expected to hit the Number One spot the Billboard 200 chart when it is announced later today (September 16), reports Billboard.com.

The Beatles, meanwhile, have sold a combined 626,000 albums after reissuing their entire back catalogue on September 9. ‘Abbey Road’ was the most popular album last week, shifting 89,000 copies.

The sales mean that Jay-Z has now scored more solo Number One albums in the US than any other artist, even eclipsing Elvis Presley. Among all acts he is in second place, ironically to The Beatles, who have reached the top spot of the Billboard 200 19 times.
