Ringo Starr’s fingers chopped off

Cigarettes are removed from album cover

The Beatles’ drummer Ringo Starr has had two fingers chopped off in a move to remove cigarettes from an album cover.

Record company bosses have decided to erase evidence of Starr, John Lennon and Paul McCartney smoking from the compilation LP ‘Capitol Albums Volume 2’, which is to be re-released on April 3.

Cigarettes have vanished from the bandmembers’ hands, as well as two of the drummer’s fingers which were holding the offending object.

As reported by The Sun, EMI removed McCartney’s cigarette on the cover of the re-issued US version of ‘I Wanna Hold Your Hand’ in 1984, though it remains to be seen whether the move will affect Arctic Monkeys’ debut LP ‘Whatever People Say I Am, That’s What I’m Not’.

The artwork for the record shows band friend Chris McClure smoking.
