John Lennon’s former wife Cynthia dies following battle with cancer

Cynthia and John Lennon had one son, Julian, together

Cynthia Lennon, the former wife of The Beatles‘ John Lennon, has died.

Lennon passed away today (April 1) at her home in Mallorca, Spain following what is described as “a short but brave battle with cancer”. She was 75.

Her son Julian Lennon (pictured right with his father) was said to be at her bedside throughout and has asked for privacy at the difficult time. A song by Julian in memory of his mother can be heard below.

Cynthia Lennon married John Lennon on 1962 after meeting him at college in Liverpool. The couple had their first, and only, child Julian in 1963. They divorced in 1968 after John met Yoko Ono.

After divorcing Lennon, Cynthia remarried three times, and in 1978 published her autobiography, A Twist Of Lennon. She later published John, a new biography of her former husband, in September 2005.
