The Beatles’ Ringo Starr pays tribute to Cynthia Lennon

John Lennon's former wife dies following battle with cancer

The Beatles‘ Ringo Starr has taken to twitter to pay tribute to Cynthia Lennon.

The former wife of The Beatles’ John Lennon passed away today (April 1) at her home in Mallorca, Spain following what is described as “a short but brave battle with cancer.” She was 75.

Ringo tweeted, “Peace and love to Julian Lennon God bless Cynthia love Ringo and Barbaraxx”

Her son Julian Lennon (pictured right with his father) was said to be at her bedside throughout and has asked for privacy at the difficult time. He tweeted a link to a memorial site set-up in her honour. A song by Julian in memory of his mother can be heard below.

Cynthia Powell married John Lennon in 1962 after meeting him at college in Liverpool. The couple had their first, and only, child Julian in 1963. They divorced in 1968 after John met Yoko Ono.

After divorcing Lennon, Cynthia remarried three times, and in 1978 published her autobiography, A Twist Of Lennon. She later published John, a new biography of her former husband, in September 2005.
