Big Pink: ‘We had to beg Carly Simon to let us perform with Lily Allen’ – video

Robbie and Milo reveal secrets behind Shockwaves NME Awards hook-up

The Big Pink have revealed how they hooked up with Lily Allen at this year’s Shockwaves NME Awards (February 24) to perform a mash-up of ‘Dominos’ and Carly Simon‘s 1972 hit ‘You’re So Vain’.

Watch a video interview with the band’s Robbie Furze and Milo Cordell speaking about the collaboration on the right of the screen.

“We thought it was a really funny thing to do – do ‘You’re So Vain’,” Furze explained, before Cordell revealed that the band had to get Simon‘s permission to play the song due to the ceremony being broadcast on TV.

“I wrote Carly Simon an email going… well, I was just really fucking honest,” he said. “I guess she must have listened to the song. One of the two – the email was good and the song was good!”

Furze added: “Thank god she said yes!”

The duo then revealed that they practised the song with Allen, who they have known for about a decade, for just “ten minutes” ahead of the performance.

The Big Pink picked up the award for Best Track for ‘Dominos’, while Allen took home the Giving It Back Fan Award for her Twitter ticket treasure hunt.

The Shockwaves NME Awards will be broadcast on Channel 4 at 11:25pm (GMT) tonight (February 26) then on T4 on the same channel at 11:10am tomorrow.
