And Nina Persson also shows off her new image to NME.COM...

THE CARDIGANS‘ singer NINA PERSSON has exclusively revealed her new image and details of her solo project exclusively to NME.COM.

Persson has lost her trademark blonde hair for her side project, A Camp. An album, also called ‘A Camp’, is due for release through Polydor in August along with a single, ‘I Can Buy You’. The album was recorded in New York and produced by Sparklehorse‘s Mark Linkous.

Persson told NME.COM that she needed to take a break from The Cardigans to ensure the band’s future. “We needed to have our puberty alone,” she said. “Now we are back and remarried. We went to LA on a band bonding for ten days, we played a lot of beach volleyball, drank, had a few barbecues and wrote some pretty nice songs.”

She added: “I wouldn’t make music to react against The Cardigans. But when you make a Cardigans record you automatically know you’ve got two-and-a-half years of constant work. I love being in a band, and as soon as I’ve finished this we’re going to do some new stuff. But A Camp is really refreshing and I feel if I can do this, then I can go back to The Cardigans and be a better member.”

Adding that the new material was “nothing like The Cardigans“, she said that she would love to tour A Camp and plans to play her first live shows at V2001, using time during the summer to put a band together.
