Charlatans drummer could return to playing within ‘six weeks’

Jon Brookes was recently diagnosed with a brain tumour

The Charlatans‘ drummer Jon Brookes, who was recently treated for a brain tumour after collapsing onstage in Philadelphia, could return to playing with the band within six weeks, according to frontman Tim Burgess.

The singer told BBC Newsbeat that Brookes had earmarked the band’s forthcoming Australian tour for his return to action.

“He wants to go to Australia, which is in six weeks time,” he said. “I think that’s the most realistic way to look at everything.”

Former Verve drummer Pete Salisbury has been filling in for Brookes while he is out of action.

They played their first gig with Salisbury on Monday (September 27), an Oxjam show for Oxfam in a London branch of the charity shop.
