Cooper Temple Clause are heading overseas for their first major North American tour.
The band will embark on a month-long stint to promote their LP ‘Kick Up the Fire And Let the Flames Break Loose’. The album will be issued by BMG on February 24 and will mark the band’s first stateside release, something bassist Didz Hammond says the band do not mind.
“It’s just kind of something you get on with and take it as it comes. I think it’s quite cool that the first record is available only on import. It’s easy enough to get if you really want it,” he said. “We’re just kind of little, indie-kid music fans and we always enjoyed getting into stuff first and going ‘Have you heard this?’. I think there’s that element of mystery in leaving your first album kind of unmentioned.”
The Cooper Temple Clause’ tour will see them play March 18 at Austin, Texas venue the Fox & Hound as part of the world-famous South by Southwest festival. They had been due to play at 2002’s event with Elbow and Cooper Temple Clause, but had to pull out due to visa complications.
The band will also play dates in Seattle, Los Angeles, New York and across Canada, which Hammond says the band are looking forward to.
“The world is a big place with a lot of people and we’ve always said that we’d play to anyone, anywhere, that would have us. I don’t think there’s any point of being in a band and feeling like you’ve got something to give to people and [then limiting] who you’re going to say it to. We’ll go to wherever. America is a big place and a culturally enriched place, and I think we’d enjoy going there anyway – and we’d certainly enjoy going there to play music.”
