The Coral launch ‘Chasing the Tail of a Dream’ video – watch

The early hours of Boxing Day - time for new music from the returning scousers

Earlier today (December 26), The Coral announced a new video for ‘Chasing the Tail of a Dream’, taken from their first new release in five years, ‘Distance Inbetween’.

The Liverpool act announced their return after a five year break in November, simultaneously confirming a new album and a planned UK tour. ‘Distance Inbetween’ is due in March, though a trailer to the album has already been launched.

The UK tour will coincide with the release of the album and includes a show at London’s O2 Shepherd’s Bush Empire on March 16. The band will also play a homecoming gig at Liverpool Sound City festival in May. See below for full dates.

This latest track will be released on limited edition, signed and numbered 7”, with the record also featuring new track ‘Unforgiven’ on the flip side.

‘Distance Inbetween’ is The Coral’s eighth studio record and their first of original material since 2010 release ‘Butterfly House’. Last year saw the band release “lost album” ‘The Curse of Love’. The album was recorded at Liverpool’s Parr Street Studio with co-producer Richard Turvey, and is dedicated to Alan Wills, The Coral’s early mentor and Deltasonic label boss who died in 2014.

“Before we started making the album we had discussed that we wanted it to be more minimal and rhythmical,” frontman James Skelly says in a statement. “We thought ‘if you’ve got a rhythm section that’s been playing together for almost twenty years, why not make that the centre of the songs?’”

Paul Molloy, formerly of The Zutons, has joined the band on guitar with Ian Skelly, Nick Power and Paul Duffy rounding off the current line-up of the band.

The 2016 UK tour will take in the following dates:

Newcastle Riverside (March 4)
Glasgow O2 ABC (March 5)
Leeds Brudenell Social Club (March 7)
Nottingham Rescue Rooms (March 8)
Birmingham O2 Institute2 (March 10)
