Ryan Jarman: ‘Live8 was my idea’

The Crib claims credit for the charity gig

Ryan Jarman has claimed to be the brains behind Live8.

The Cribs man revealed his influential role during BBC music quiz ‘Never Mind The Buzzcocks’ on March 27.

Correctly identifying the intro of ‘I Don’t Like Mondays’ by Bob Geldof’s band The Boomtown Rats, Jarman revealed his influence in Live8‘s organisation.

“It’s not my mate Geldof is it?” asked Jarman when asked to guess the song. “I think he knows me. You don’t want to know how? I invented Live8 see. This is not actually a lie.”

The Crib then revealed why he thinks Live8 was down to him.

“We were in the recording studio recording our album and I found Bob Geldof’s mobile phone number while we were there and I sent him a text message just saying Live Aid 2,” declared Jarman. “Lo and behold six month later Live8 comes round. It’s just nice to know you’ve made a little bit of difference.”

He added he wasn’t upset with Geldof taking the credit. “It is totally true, but I’m a modest guy I can sit back and be content knowing I don’t need the recognition,” he explained.

Jarman was asked to join the panel by Kaiser ChiefsRicky Wilson, who guest hosted the show.

“I got The Cribs on the show tonight partly because they are one of the most underrated bands around and partly because we can share a cab back to Yorkshire and claim expenses for two!” joked the singer.

The show can be viewed online until April 3 at bbc.co.uk/bbctwo
