Robert Smith: ‘I don’t think we’re cut out for this Godlike Genius stuff!’

The Cure star jokes about his band's Shockwaves NME Awards honour

The Cure‘s Robert Smith has said he was worried that the band might not fit in at last night’s (February 25) Shockwaves NME Awards, because they’re so different to the other acts at the ceremony.

In a video interview, which you can watch by scrolling down now, Smith revealed his thoughts – although as you’ll see, he actually had nothing to fear.

“I was a bit worried, maybe a bit concerned, about how we were gonna fit in because we’ve lived in our own world for so long. But it was very heartwarming to hear the words of appreciation that we’ve had all night from other bands,” Smith said.

The Cure singer also jokingly stated that he didn’t think his band were ready to be crowned Godlike Geniuses just yet. “I don’t think we’re really cut out for this Godlike Genius stuff,” he laughed.
