Cure have announced they will release a four-disc box set featuring B-sides and rarities early next year.

The box set, entitled ’Join The Dots: B-Sides And Rarities’, covers the bands work from 1978 to 2001, and features 71 tracks, including covers of Hellacopters’s Purple Haze, and The Doors’ Hello I Love You’.

“The first thing I ever did when I got a new single. was flip it over and play the other side,” explains vocalist Robert Smith on the band’s website. “I always hoped the B-side would give me another

version of the artist, something as good as the A-side but somehow different. I expected great B-sides from the artists I loved.”

“With Cure we always looked for something that was a skewed version of what we did on the album,” he explained to Rolling Stone. “I’m really proud of our B-sides and I’ve always paid special attention to them.”

The box set will also feature an 80-page booklet which includes images of the band, and a track-by-track commentary.

The band, who signed to Ross Robinson’s label I Am earlier his year, will also release their 14th album in summer 2004. All of [a][/a]’s previous albums will be re-mastered in the next 18 months, and will be re-released with an extra disc of live, rare and previously unreleased material.

The box set will be available from January 25.
