The Dandy Warhols are beginning work on a cover of The Beatles‘ song ‘Blackbird’, in keeping with a promise they made in one of their famous song lyrics.
In the title track from their 2003 album ‘Welcome To The Monkey House’, the Portland band sings, “When Michael Jackson dies/We’re covering ‘Blackbird’.”
Guitarist Peter Holmström told NME.COM that within an hour of Jackson‘s untimely death on June 25, the band were getting hundreds of texts from people asking if they would make good on their promise.
“It’s so bizarre — I never thought we’d be doing it this soon,” Holmström said. “We were flooded with texts within an hour of (Jackson‘s) death.”
Holmström said that the band intend to lay down the recording as soon as all of the band members return from their summer trips and can convene at their Odditorium studio in Portland. He added that they aren’t yet sure how they will release it, but they plan to do so within the coming weeks.
