The Darkness: ‘We autographed a dog’s testicles’

Rockers elected drummer to sign the stuffed dog because he has the shortest name in the band

The Darkness have admitted that they once signed a fans dog’s testicles.

The rockers say they were slightly confused when presented with the stuffed dog, but elected drummer Ed Graham to sign it, because he has the shortest name in the band. Frontman Justin Hawkins explained to Loudwire:

It was a family dog that had passed away and the family had it stuffed. And then the grandmother had died and left the dog to this guy. Apparently he always used to hate that dog when it was alive — that’s what he told us.

He added: “He had been left this heirloom in his grandmother’s will and wanted to turn it into something positive, so he had the Darkness sign it for him.”

Recalling how fitted his name on the testicles, Graham explained: “I think I wrote ‘E’ on one ball and ‘D’ on the other.”

Hawkins then admitted he doesn’t limit the band’s signings to animal flesh, as he was recently asked to sign a man’s bottom for the first time. He said: “Obviously, one of the reasons people think we’re a classic rock band is because we’re one of those bands that occasionally has the pleasure of signing breasts. Not everybody gets that opportunity, but we do. We’re lucky in that respect. The other day I signed a man’s ass. That was a first!”

The Darkness are releasing their third album, ‘Hot Cakes’, this August. The album is their first since 2005’s ‘One Way Ticket To Hell And Back’.

The album also includes a cover of Radiohead‘s seminal single ‘Street Spirit (Fade Out)’, of which Hawkins said: “We included the Radiohead cover because it has been a live favourite for many moons, and we wanted to release a definitive recording of our interpretation.”

The band will support Lady Gaga on her UK stadium tour in September and across Europe throughout the summer.

The tracklisting for ‘Hot Cakes’ is as follows:

‘Every Inch Of You’
‘Nothing’s Gonna Stop Us’
‘With A Woman’
‘Keep Me Hangin’ On’
‘Living Every Day Blind’
‘Everybody Having A Good Time’
