Former The Darkness frontman Justin Hawkins was beaten to a place in the Eurovision Song Contest by pop act Scooch last night (March 17).
The singer, who had been the bookies favourite to win the competition with ‘They Don’t Make ‘Em Like They Used To’, lost out to the previously defunct four-piece who won despite a blunder over the winners.
Both ‘Making Your Mind Up’ hosts Terry Wogan and Fearne Cotton announced different winners with the former initially claiming that solo singer Cyndi had won.
Seconds later it was confirmed that Scooch had won with their track ‘Flying The Flag (For You)’.
They beat five other contenders including Atomic Kitten‘s Liz McClarnon and Katrina Leskanich.
The BBC later apologised for the mix up, reports BBC News.
Last year’s winners Lordi also performed on the show.
The year’s contest will take place on May 10 with 28 countries all competing for 10 places in the final.
