Jack White’s Dead Weather play ‘surprise’ Glastonbury show

White and co play afternoon slot on Park Stage

Jack White‘s new band The Dead Weather played a special gig at Glastonbury this afternoon (June 26), taking to the Park Stage at 6.45pm (BST).

The band, fronted by The KillsAlison Mosshart, were billed as “special guests” on the Glastonbury bill, having announced yesterday (June 25) that they were going to play the festival.

The four-some were all dressed in black with White, on drumming duties, sporting an impressive mane of hair that flailed wildly as he moved around to play his instruments.

They played songs from their forthcoming debut album ‘Horehound’, plus covers by Van Morrison (‘You Just Can’t Win’), West Coast Art Pop Experimental Band (‘Child Of A Few Hours’) and Bob Dylan‘New Pony’, which features on ‘Horehound’.

The band kept chat minimal throughout the set apart from White introducing the band members, calling MosshartBaby Ruthless“.

Later in the set, bassist Jack Lawrence took to the drum stool while White strapped on a guitar to play ‘Will There Be Enough Water’, drawing cheers from the crowd.

He and Mosshart shared a microphone to sing the song together before White drew more cheers for a series of impressive guitar solos.

The band hugged and bowed at the front of the stage, with White signing off by saying, “Have a good time, God bless”.
