The Dead Weather gave their first UK performance in London tonight (June 22) for Nigel Godrich‘s From The Basement sessions.
The four-piece, led by The White Stripes‘ Jack White and The Kills‘ Alison Mosshart, played a four-song set in the studios of Covent Garden‘s Hospital complex at 9.15pm (BST).
The entire performance was screened live in a number of record shops around the country, on some Nokia phones and on FTBlive.com.
Kicking off with recent limited release ‘Hang You From The Heavens’, the band, which features The Raconteurs‘ Jack Lawrence on bass, then powered through their set without a break between songs, using feedback to fill the gaps.
During ‘Bonehouse’, Mosshart, pulling poses throughout, strapped on an electric guitar to fingerpick, while usual guitarist Queens Of The Stone Age‘s Dean Fertita switched to keyboards.
White stuck to drums throughout the set, occasionally contributing restrained backing vocals, leaving Mosshart as the centre of attention.
The band finished their set with a blistering cover of Pentagram‘s ‘Forever My Queen’, before quickly leaving the stage.
The Dead Weather played:
‘Hang You From The Heavens’
‘Treat Me Like Your Mother’
‘Bonehouse’
‘Forever My Queen’
From The Basement has already delivered performances from Radiohead, Beck, Sonic Youth, Iggy Pop and Fleet Foxes.
The Dead Weather release their debut album ‘Horehound’ on July 13. Their first ‘proper’ gig takes place this Wednesday (June 24) at the London Forum.
